doula new orleans all ways supported birth

Supporting you through pregnancy, birth and postpartum

You, your body and your baby know how to birth. My support as a doula and certified breastfeeding specialist helps you connect with that intuition. I believe all birthing people deserve to feel safe, supported and cared for during labor, birth, and the amazing transition to their new life as a parent. I believe all birthing people have a right to informed consent - I’m here to remind you that you have choices in your pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum period and to support whatever choice you decide is right for you and your family. All ways of birthing are supported, and all ways of being are supported.

I recognize that our healthcare system and other societal systems not only make birthing in a personalized and empowered way a difficulty for birthing people, but that unacceptable disparities in care and outcomes exist for BIPOC, LGBTQ+, religious minorities, individuals who speak english as a second language, and other marginalized groups. I support all families and birthing people and work hard to provide personalized and empowering support. I am also happy to provide referrals that may better fit the support you need.

Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula

Certified Breastfeeding Specialist

Certified Childbirth Educator

Certified Body Ready Method® Pro

Jenna Iberg Johnson is a certified birth and postpartum doula, certified childbirth educator, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, and certified Body Ready Method ® pro. She supports parents and families in the greater New Orleans area with the belief that every parent deserves personalized support through pregnancy, labor, birth and the postpartum period so that they may feel safe, vulnerable, powerful, seen and heard.

Jenna, a mother of two children, found her own transition to motherhood to be intense, overwhelming, amazing and exhausting. While Jenna had prepared through her entire pregnancy, she found herself in need of a lot of support during this sacred time and appreciated tremendously the support of her own doula, family and friends around the births of both of her children. The saying, “it takes a village,” never felt more true.  Jenna found herself compelled to support new parents and would do so with all of her expecting friends near and far.

Jenna obtained her BEST doula certification in January of 2019, BEST childbirth educator certification in June of 2021, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist certification in May of 2023, and she became a certified Body Ready Method® pro in April of 2024. Originally from Evanston, IL, Jenna earned her Masters of Science in Public Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and has worked at the Louisiana Office of Public Health as an Infectious Disease Epidemiologist since 2011.

What is a Doula?

Doulas provide support to birthing people and their families through pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period to include emotional support and encouragement, educational support to help birthing people make their own decisions, physical support to help provide comfort and encourage movement to keep baby moving down and out during labor, and referrals as necessary to support the needs of the growing family. Doulas also work closely with partners in providing loving support to the birthing person and allowing the partner to rest and replenish if needed. A doula is not a medical provider and does not provide medical care.

Research shows that people who have continuous support during labor and birth have shorter labors, lower rates of Cesarean birth, increased likelihood of spontaneous vaginal birth, decreased use of pain medication, and are less likely to feel dissatisfied with their birth experience.
